Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
Summary: We collect minimal data needed to operate the service. We don't sell your data, we don't track your browsing, and we don't use cookies for advertising.
1. Who We Are
Listing Detective ("we", "us", "our") provides a Chrome browser extension and web service at listingdetective.com that helps Amazon sellers analyze competitor product catalogs. This policy covers both the extension and the website.
2. What We Collect
Chrome Extension:
- IP address — used to generate your extension API key and prevent duplicate accounts. Stored on our server.
- Basic browser info — browser language, timezone, platform (e.g. "Win32"), and screen resolution. Collected once during registration to help identify your device. Not shared with third parties.
- Seller IDs you crawl — when you click "Get all products", the Amazon seller ID and marketplace are sent to our server to run the crawl job.
- Extension usage — daily job counts for enforcing free-tier limits.
We do NOT collect:
- Your Amazon account credentials or login status
- Your browsing history or pages you visit
- Any personal information (name, email, phone) unless you voluntarily provide it
- Payment or financial information
- Content of pages other than seller/product identifiers
Website:
- Standard server logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) for security and debugging.
- No third-party analytics, no advertising trackers, no cookies for tracking.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the service — run crawl jobs, return results, enforce usage limits.
- To prevent abuse — rate limiting, duplicate account detection.
- To improve the service — aggregate, anonymous usage statistics (e.g. total jobs run).
4. Data Storage & Security
- Data is stored on our servers located in the United States.
- API keys are randomly generated and do not contain personal information.
- We use HTTPS for all communication between the extension and our servers.
- We retain crawl job results for 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted.
- Extension API keys and usage data are retained as long as the key is active.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. We may disclose data only if required by law or to protect our rights.
6. Your Rights
- Delete your data — uninstall the extension and your API key becomes inactive. Contact us to request full deletion of your data from our servers.
- Access your data — contact us to request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Opt out — you can stop using the extension at any time by uninstalling it.
7. Chrome Extension Permissions
The extension requests these permissions:
- storage — to save your API key and crawl history locally in your browser.
- activeTab — to read seller and product information from the Amazon page you're viewing.
- alarms — to poll crawl job status in the background.
- notifications — to notify you when a crawl job completes.
- Host permission (listingdetective.com) — to communicate with our API server.
The extension runs only on Amazon domains listed in the manifest. It does not access any other websites.
8. Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
